Did you know back in the day and I mean way back... women were not allowed to have pockets on their clothing? According to the article “The Bewildering and Sexist History of the Pockets” by Chanju Mwanza, Why is it women’s clothing almost never had practical pockets? Back in the day women essentially had to get undressed with those tricky petticoats to access the contents of their pockets. Now how hard is that! So even if they could carry their personal items around with them, they couldn't get them out in public. And thus, the inequality of men's and women’s pockets was born.
Not only did women fight for pockets, but they also changed their clothing to lose trousers with big pockets. This was out of the norm and with that being said, the birth of pockets on women’s clothing came into existence. Yay! To sum it all up, back then and now, as women we want equal rights and the choice to have pockets on our clothing. Personally, I think it’s a necessity just my opinion but convenient for me. Thank you Chanju Mwanza, for raising our attention towards “Pocket Inequality”
